KAVALA Port of Kavala The port of Kavala played an important role in the development of the city fromantiquity to the present day. The Port Authority of Kavala SA is responsible for the management of the four ports in the wider area of Kavala. The central port of Kavala “Apostolos Pavlos”, the commercial port “Philip II” in Nea Karvali, the port of Eleftheres and the port of Keramoti. The particular advantages associated with the geostrategic position of the ports of Kavala signify the prospects for the economic development of Kavala and the wider region of Eastern Macedonia and Thrace. The Central Port of Kavala, “Apostle Paul”, which is located within the city, is reached by cruise ships. It has two winding piers, one with a total length of 480m and 9m draft for large cruise ships and the other one for medium size cruise ships with 160m length and up to 10m draft. The port operates an integrated security system based on an approved “Port Facility Security Plan” that complies with all ISPS security code terms. A modern Passenger Station is available for cruise passengers. Port’s proximity to Kavala International Airport, Alexander the Great (30 km) and the Greek-Bulgarian border (90 km), give the port a future opportunity for its operation as a cruise start point..
