Milos is inhabited since the Neolithic era and acquired a great economic power thanks to the obsidian stone, a black, very hard volcanic rock used by Milios civilians in the manufacture of weapons. In 1820 AD, the well-known marble statue “Aphrodite of Milos” was found in a rural area of the island. One year after the excavation moved at the Louvre Museum, where it is exhibited to this day. The statue dates back to 150 - 50 BC. The main port of Milos is Adamas, one of the safest natural bays of the Mediterranean, and is a stopover for the cruise ships sailing the Cyclades islands. Milos is one of the most beautiful islands of the Cycladic complex. The visi- tors of Milos can visit the Archaeological Museum, where the copy of the impressive statue of Aphrodite is exhibited. The visitors of the island can visit the Mining Museum, which highlights the mining history of the island since the Neolithic era, as well as the Ecclesiastical and Maritime Muse- ums. Visiting options are also the Catacombs, the place where the first Chris- tians were concentrated, the hot springs and the Wire. The wires are tra- ditional settlements dug into soft rock and painted in bold colors to keep small boats. Milos is famous for some of the most beautiful beaches of Greece with white sand and turquoise waters. Small cruise ships offer sea excursions to Kleftiko, a hideout of the Pirates, a place of unique beauty. Also, the tradi- tional villages of the island, the volcanic landscape and traditional products, are some of visitors interests. .. visiting the island of Venus!
